Rice -- Strong veteran player who made a major position change in the spring... Has 20 career starts at tight end, but will enter fall ball as the backup to Andrew Cates at fullback in the Owls[apos] new offensive set... Won the Bill Whitmore Award as the most improved offensive player during 2005 spring drills... Excellent blocker who has made a major contribution to the Owl rushing attack. 2004: Played in all 11 games with nine starts at tight end... Academic all-WAC selection... Had three catches for 47 yards, including a 30-yard TD catch in the win over Hawaii... Also had receptions against San Jose State and Tulsa. 2003: Played in all 12 games with nine starts as a sophomore to win his second letter... His only two catches (51 yards) came against Nevada, but one was for a 29-yard touchdown in the Rice win... Had three tackles (one primary) on special teams. 2002: Earned his first letter by playing in 10 games... Had two starts in double tight-end formations (Fresno State and Louisiana Tech)... Had no receptions as a redshirt freshman. 2001: Redshirt.
