2019: Conference USA Pitcher of the Year; All-Conference USA (first team); NCAA District 7 All-Academic Team (3.97 GPA, mechanical engineering); C-USA All-Academic Team; C-USA Pitcher of the Week (April 29); Became the fourth Rice Owl in program history to be named the C-USA Pitcher of the Year… Tied for 11th in Division I baseball with 121 strikeouts… Ranked 50th in the country with 11.11 strikeouts-per-9.0 innings … Struck out ten or more batters in a game four times, including 12 against C-USA rival Old Dominion on the road to tie a career-high… Posted five other starts where he reached nine strikeouts, and there was only one time in his 15 starts when he struck out less than six batters… Became the first Rice pitcher since 1993 to lead the team in strikeouts for three-consecutive seasons… Finished 24th in the nation in WHIP (0.97) and was 30th among Division I pitchers with a 5.26-to-1 strikeouts-to-walk ratio... Averaged more than 6.2 IP for 15 starts… Pitched a career long 9.0 innings for a complete game victory against C-USA foe Florida International… Other wins were recorded over Big 12 power Oklahoma, Old Dominion, Charlotte, Middle Tennessee and Louisiana Tech... 2018: Conference USA Academic Medalist; C-USA Academic Honor Roll; C-USA Baseball All-Academic Team; All-Conference USA (First Team); Pitched for the United States Collegiate National Team, and was also the winning pitcher of the annual Cape Cod League All-Star Game (CCL West/Falmouth) over the summer… For the collegiate spring season he tied for 22nd in the nation with 116 strikeouts in 94.0 innings… Finished the year ranked 48th in the country with 11.11 strikeouts-per-9.0 innings of work… Struck out ten or more batters in a game five times, including a career-high 12 against crosstown foe Houston Baptist (which he left after 7.0 as Rice built an eight-run lead)… Averaged more than 6.0 inn. for 15 starts… Pitched a career long 8.0 frames twice, against C-USA foes Western Kentucky and Old Dominion… Held opposing hitters to a composite .188 batting average… Allowed 6.12 hits per 9.0 innings (as a starter) to finish among the NCAA leaders… Low hit total helped him tie for 16th in the nation in WHIP (0.93)… Maintained a 5.3-to-1 strikeouts-to-walk ratio (41st in the NCAA)... Particularly tough in seven home starts at Reckling Park (5-1, 2.49 ERA and .155 OppBA)… ‘Friday night ace' did not get many chances to pitch in day games, but was 3-0 with 2.65 ERA and .204 OppBA in sunshine.
2017: Sensational debut season at the Division I level... Led Conference USA, and ranked 27th in the NCAA, with 111 strikeouts... Also led the league, and ranked 31st in the nation, for fewest hits allowed per 9.0 innings (6.28)... Averaged 10.4 strikeouts per 9.0 innings, the 12th-highest mark in the nation for pitchers who also threw at least 96.0 innings... Led the Rice staff in innings, starts (17), and opponents' batting average (.194)... Held opposing hitters to an austere .156 batting average when runners were on base... Averaged 5.2 innings for 17 starts, with a career-long of 7.2 innings and a career-high 11 strikeouts for a win in the opening game of the Conference USA tournament against Florida Atlantic... Pitched 7.1 innings with seven strikeouts in a C-USA road victory at Western Kentucky... Recorded 7.0 frames in games against No. 11 ranked Stanford, and also on the road at league foe Old Dominion... Allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out ten against Stanford, one of four games where he recorded double-digit strikeouts... Three of the four double-digit strikeout games were in consecutive starts (Pepperdine, Stanford and Old Dominion), becoming the first Owl to accomplish that feat since Jeff Niemann in 2003... Tallied the most innings (16.1) and strikeouts (22) on the staff in the postseason, where he also held opposing hitters to a .200 batting average.
High School - A 2016 graduate of Carroll High School in Southlake, Texas... Two-year starting pitcher for head coach Larry Hughes... Helped lead the Dragons to the second round of the 2016 6A state tournament... Career prep totals included an 18-2 record, 1.37 ERA and 189 strikeouts in 117.2 innings... First Team All-Area and the District 7-6A Pitcher of the Year by the Dallas Morning News as a senior... Earned Honorable Mention All-State from the Texas Sports Writers Association as a junior after helping the team reach the Region I semifinals of the 2015 6A state tournament... National Merit Commended Scholar and AP Scholar with Distinction... Maintained a 103.9 grade point average on a 100-point scale... Ranked tenth in graduating class of 635... Played summer ball for Texas Stix... Named a 2016 Rawlings-Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-American... First team All Texas Region by Perfect Game, ranked as the No. 16 right-handed pitcher in the state.
