5/12/2026 9:52:00 PM | Baseball
Open series with Tulane at 6:35 on Thursday
Houston- Houston erupted for nine runs in the first inning and never looked back, downing Rice 14-3 in the finale of the 2026 Silver Glove Series at Schroeder Park on Tuesday night.
How it Happened: Rice looked to draw first blood as Zachary Daigre singled in his first appearance at the top of the lineup, but he was thrown out attempting to steal. JC Davis followed with a single of his own, but the Owls could not create any additional traffic. Houston packaged five hits, four walks, and a hit batter along with a pair of errors to score nine in its half of the first. The Cougars added two in the second and one in the third before Rice broke through with three runs in its half of the fourth. Paul Smith and Garet Boehm reached on singles, and Hiram Bocachica Jr. reached on an error to load the bases. Cole Green followed with a hard shot to third base that was ruled an error to bring in Smith and Boehm. Bocachica came home one batter later, thanks to a sacrifice fly by Landis Davila. Houston answered with two in the bottom of the fourth and held Rice scoreless over the next three innings to close out the game.
Next Up: Rice returns to Reckling Park on Thursday to open a three-game series against Tulane to close out the American Conference regular season schedule. The Owls are tied for third in the conference with UAB, but hold the tiebreaker over the Blazers. The top two seeds in the conference championship receive a double bye, while the third and fourth seeds receive a bye.
