Owls Hold Off Green Wave to Take Series
5/15/2026 11:29:00 PM | Baseball
Celebrate Senior Day at 1:05 on Saturday
How it Happened: After being shut out on Thursday, Tulane struck first on Friday as a single and a throwing error put the first two runners of the game on base. A sacrifice moved them into scoring position, and a sacrifice fly broke the ice before Rice starter Ethan Sanders ended the threat with a groundout to first. The Owls scored four times in the second to take the lead. Paul Smith led off with a double, and Boehm followed with a ground-rule double to tie the game. Webb's single moved Boehm to third and he put Rice in front, scoring on a wild pitch. Zachary Daigre doubled the score later in the inning with a single to score Webb and Landis Davila. Webb's solo homer in the third made the score 5-1, and after Tulane scored once on a solo homer in the top of the fourth, Rice responded with two runs in the bottom half of the frame on RBI singles by JC Davis and Boehm. Tulane chased Sanders in the fifth after loading the bases with none out, but Ty Thames worked out of the jam with only one run scoring. The Green Wave shaved two runs off the lead in the sixth and closed to within two with a solo homer in the eighth while former Owl Tom Vincent held Rice in check through the seventh. Thames battled his way through the eighth, and the offense responded with a pair of runs on sac flies by Boehm and Davila. Brayden Sharp closed out the ninth to give the Owls their ninth weekend series victory, five of them in conference action.,
Next Up: Rice and Tulane close out the regular season on Saturday at 1:05 p.m. as the Owls hold their annual Senior Day.
