2018: Worked hard to get back on the field with his teammates after being sidelined in the third game of the season… Finished the year playing in just 24 of the Owls’ 59 games… Started every game which he was able to play, including seven behind the plate and 17 as the designated hitter… Offensively began the year batting .381 (8-for-21) with a home run and a double before being sidelined for the bulk of the season, including key conference series in March and much of April… Returned to active duty first as the DH, then started behind home plate for the first time in the final C-USA series of the season at FIU.
2017: Fixture behind the plate and in the middle of the batting order, starting 63 of the team's 64 games... Starting catcher 58 times, with five additional starts at designated hitter... Batted cleanup 53 times... Led the team in batting average (.366) and on-base percentage (.438), and was second on the squad in hits (87) and RBI (49)... Finished third in walks (27) and slugging (.508)... Reached base at a .531 pace when leading off an inning... Hit .358 with runners in scoring position... Batted a composite .431 in home games at Reckling Park... Helped carry the team in the second half of the season, hitting .385 over the final 32 games… Was at his very best when the Owls were playing the best, maintaining a .408 average and a .478 on-base percentage against elite teams that would go on to play in the NCAA Tournament… Recorded 28 games with two or more hits, the second-highest total on the team... Tallied a season-high three hits eight different times... Went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBI against nationally-ranked Texas... Had 15 games with multiple RBI, the second-highest mark on the team... Tied a career-high with four RBI on two occasions, including national power Stanford and C-USA foe FIU... Led the Owls in hitting during the fall training program after playing in the prestigious Cape Cod League (Hyannis) over the summer.
2016: NCAA All-Regional Team; Conference USA All-Freshman Team; Conference USA Academic Honor Roll; Played in 51 of the team's 62 games and worked his way into 48 starts as a true freshman... Made 36 starts as the designated hitter and 12 at catcher... Eleven starts behind the plate were all in the first two months of the season, then made one final start at catcher in the second game of the C-USA home double-header against Western Kentucky (April 16)... Proved to be the team's top-hitting catcher, but 1) was able to maintain a slightly higher average (.306) when just focusing on hitting as the DH and 2) easily proved to be the squad's best DH ahead eight other Owls who auditioned for the role... Batted everywhere between third and ninth in the order, with 13 starts at cleanup... Was a steady .299 in the first half of the season followed by a .290 clip in the second half... Hit .300 with the bases empty, .313 with men in scoring position, and an eye-opening .556 (5-of-9) when batting with the bases loaded... Finished second on the team (behind fellow freshman Ford Proctor) in at bats with the bases loaded... Reached base at a .378 pace when leading off an inning... Solid inaugural postseason included a .324 average (12-of-37), six runs scored and five RBI in the Owls' last ten games... Maintained a .310 average when facing the elite opponents that went on to play in the NCAA Tournament... Finished second on the team recording two or more hits in a game (17 times)... Became one of just four Owls all year to record four hits in a game, the best of his career while on the road against C-USA foe FIU... Enjoyed some of his biggest offensive success (.419 average on 13-of-31 hitting) when playing against schools from his home state of Florida... Drove-in 20 runs, half of which were in pressure situations of having two outs already recorded in the inning... Tallied two or more RBI in game five times, including career-high three with bases-loaded double in the team's first road game at longtime foe Sam Houston State... Slugged a double and a triple for a career-best five total bases in the 7-2 home win over Lamar... Played in the South Florida Collegiate League (Del Ray Beach) over the summer... One of five Rice players to be named in his summer league's all-star game, but the only Owl tabbed as the all-star MVP... Caught all nine innings of the exhibition at Cuban League team Artemisa, where he was intentionally walked twice and scored in five plate appearances.
