Rice & North Texas Finish In 0-0 Tie

Owls Get The C-USA Point To Move Into Third In C-USA Standings
HOUSTON – After 90 full minutes and two overtime periods the Rice and North Texas soccer teams finished in a 0-0 deadlock Friday evening at Holloway Field in Houston.
C-USA Standings Watch
Friday's double-overtime tie was not necessarily the result either team wanted after 110 hard-fought minutes, but both teams got the point. With the tie Rice was able to climb from fourth place in the final C-USA regular season standings into a tie for third with Charlotte. The Owls hold the tie-breaker over Charlotte based on the Sept. 22 win over the 49ers at Holloway Field and will be the No. 3 seed of next week's C-USA Tournament. There is a three-way tie for sixth in the final standings. The final three seeds in the C-USA Tournament (including Rice's next opponent) will be announced by the league office on Saturday morning (Nov. 2).
Save The Date(s)
The league's postseason Championship, where the automatic bid to the NCAA Championship is on the line, is scheduled for Nov. 6-10 in Denton, Texas.

For The Record
Rice finished 6-1-3 in C-USA matches. The team is 9-5-3 for the full season. North Texas is 12-5-1 overall and 7-2-1 against the league.
Clean Slate No. 8
The Owl goalkeeping tandem of sophomore Bella Killgore and senior Maya Hoyer split the night's playing time for the first and second halves, respectively. The duo combined for a season-high 11 saves to post the team's eighth shutout of the season. The eight clean slates is the fifth-highest single-season total in program history. Hoyer made a dramatic save on a shot in the 88th minute by punching a rocket shot over the crossbar.
Close Calls
Rice was not without some solid chances to score in the match. In the 64th minute Erin Mikeska had an attempt from inside the 18 go wide. Madison Kent's hard-liner in the 74th minute was blocked. Credit North Texas keeper Kelsey Brann with making a sensational save on a shot by Haley Kostyshyn in the 80th minute. The Mean Green had a shot hit the crossbar in the 88th minute.
RE: OT
Rice is now 0-1-3 in overtime this season and matched the four OTs the team played in 2018. The Owls are still searching for their first win in overtime period since 2016 (at Florida Atlantic).
Hail Seniors!
A total of six Owl seniors were honored before the start of Friday's match. Veteran players Maya Hoyer, Haley Kostyshyn, Lianne Mananquil, Erin Mikeska and Louise Stephens made their final competitive appearance Friday at Holloway Field. Senior manager Julia Greenberg was likewise honored for her exemplary service to the soccer program.
