Chancey’s Late Goal Results in Draw with ECU on Senior Night

HOUSTON – The Rice soccer team used a clutch penalty-kick goal from Leah Chancey in the final minutes to result in a 1-1 draw against East Carolina Thursday night at Holloway Field. The Owls move to 9-2-5 (3-1-5 American), while East Carolina is now 5-6-4 (3-3-2 American).
The draw clinches a spot for Rice in the 2025 American Conference Soccer Tournament.
How It Happened
The Owls had chances right out of the gate, with a trio of shots by Eileen Albers and Chancey getting blocked and saved before ECU settled on defense. It wasn't until the 32-minute mark when the Pirates broke for the first goal off a free kick. ECU held the 1-0 lead at halftime.
Piper Biziorek had a chance to even the score to open the second half, but the Pirate keeper was there for the save. Allie Love and Kallie McKinney later also saw their shots saved as ECU continued to keep Rice off the board. With under seven minutes to go, a review awarded Rice with a penalty kick, where Chancey converted as the two sides were left to settle for a 1-1 draw.
