Double-Digit Wins
The Owls improved to 10-5-3 for the full season. Middle Tennessee closed out its 2019 season with an 8-10-1 ledger. Rice has registered double-digit wins in five of the last six seasons.
Hail Seniors!
A host of Owl seniors who were not quite ready to end their collegiate careers played a big part in the win. Forward Haley Kostyshyn scored twice and recorded an assist. Lianne Mananquil scored a goal and had an assist. Louise Stephens also registered an assist while goalkeeper Maya Hoyer posted three big saves in the second half.
Rapid Fire
After 110 scoreless minutes in a double-overtime match against North Texas, and a scoreless first half against Middle Tennessee Rice exploded for three goals in a 3:07 span at the start of the second period. Kostyshyn's first two goals were just 2:05 apart, but the Blue & Gray wasn't quite finished. Lianne Mananquil's goal was 1:02 after Kostyshyn to tie for the tenth-fastest back-to-back goals in Rice soccer history and the program's fastest two consecutive scores since 2017.
With The Assist…
Lianne Mananquil's assist was her team-leading sixth of the season and the 22nd of her collegiate career which is the third-highest total in school history. The Jacksonville, Fla., native needs just two more to tie Clory Martin (2007) for second all-time in the Rice ledgers.
