HOUSTON – The Rice soccer team played to a 3-3 draw against North Texas Thursday night at Holloway Field. The Owls honored their nine seniors pregame: Eileen Albers, Mia Brumlow, Isabelle Kent, Jordyn Mariam, Lauren Pickup, Kirsten Ruf, Kenzie Solomon, Elizabet Velkova and Sophie Zhang.
How It Happened
The Mean Green scored right out of the gate, taking an early lead just one minute into the match. Near the 16-minute mark, a VAR review granted the Owls a penalty kick, with Lilly Reuscher converting to even the score. After stealing possession in the attacking half, Dayo Tennyson drove all the way to the top of the box, firing a shot into the top right corner to put the Owls in front. Rice led 2-1 at the half.
After fending off several shots in the opening parts of the second half, UNT found an equalizing goal with 33 minutes remaining. Mia Brumlow and Elliana Ramirez looked to put Rice ahead, but their shots struck the post and crossbar, keeping things even. With 14 minutes remaining, Neerali Kapadia sent a cross into the box that a UNT defender put in the back of the net to give Rice the lead. Minutes later, North Texas converted a penalty kick to even the score once again, with the match ending in a 3-3 draw.
