Owls Close Out Winning 2019 Season Reaching C-USA Semifinals
DENTON, Texas – The North Texas soccer team scored two second half goals to claim a 2-0 win over the visiting Rice Owls in the semifinal round of the C-USA Championship Friday evening at the Mean Green Soccer Complex in Denton, Texas.
For The Record
Rice has concluded the 2019 season, the first under new head coach Brian Lee, with a 10-6-3 record. The Owls won three more games than the previous season and advanced to the second round of the C-USA Championship semifinals for the first time since 2014.

The Rice-UNT Scoreless Stretch
Including the match a week ago that ended in a double-overtime 0-0 tie, Rice and North Texas played close to 175 consecutive scoreless minutes before the Mean Green found the back of the Rice net in the 75th minute.
Close Calls
The Owls were out-shot in the contest 22-8, but Rice was not without some solid chances to score. Junior defender Mijke Roelfsema came forward to take a season-high three shots, including two that were corralled by the North Texas goalkeeper.
Career Climber
Senior Lianne Mananquil closed out her collegiate career with 22 assists, the third-highest total in school history. The Jacksonville, Fla., native led the Owls with six assists this season.
