
Rice Falls in OT to UTSA in American Championship Game

LAKEWOOD RANCH – The sixth-seeded Rice soccer team dropped a hard-fought game 1-0 in overtime to fifth-seed UTSA in the American Conference championship game Sunday afternoon. The Owls close the 2025 season with a 10-4-6 record.
How It Happened
Both sides tried to get the offenses clicking early, with shots missing on both ends. Jadyn Jaeger rattled off the first good look for the Owls just shy of the 12-minute mark, but the keeper was there for the save. UTSA had a look in the final minutes, but Kirsten Ruf came up with the big save as the two went into the half scoreless.
Piper Biziorek tried to get Rice on the board, but another save prevented the score. Midway in the second half, Leah Chancey tried her luck, but UTSA was there for another stop. Both sides held on defense the rest of the way to send the game to overtime.
After trading shots to open the overtime frame, Olivia Duvall had two looks to win the match, but the Roadrunner defense made two timely stops once again. The Roadrunners struck soon after with a goal in the 99th minute to win the match.
