Ruf Named Goalkeeper of the Week; Pickup Honorable Mention

HOUSTON – The Rice soccer team was represented on the opening weekly conference honors, with Kirsten Ruf being named the American Conference Goalkeeper of the Week and Lauren Pickup earning honorable mention recognition, the league announced Monday afternoon.

Ruf guided the Owls to their first victory of the season in a 3-0 win against Navy. Ruf recorded her first career assist during the match, while making four saves in goal.

The win marked her fifth career clean sheet. Ruf added six saves in the team's season opener against Texas A&M.

Pickup scored a pair of goals on the week against Texas A&M and Navy, scoring in back-to-back games for the first time in her career.

Pickup has now scored four goals in her career and tied a season-high in points with four.

The Owls head to HCU on Thursday night before returning to Holloway Field Sunday to face Lamar.
