Owls Play to Draw at HCU

HOUSTON – The Rice soccer team played to a 1-1 draw on the road against HCU Thursday evening. The Owls' record moves to 1-1-1, while HCU also moves to 1-1-1 to start the season.
How It Happened
Rice fired several shots on target in the early stages of the match, but the Huskie keeper was able to make each save. In the 17th minute, HCU struck for the opening goal of the match. The Owls looked to even the score, but shots from Ava Landstra and Mia Brumlow were fended off. Rice trailed 1-0 at halftime.
Not even two minutes into the second half, freshman Valentina Labuschagne rattled off a shot from outside the box to the back of the net to even the score. A relentless offensive charge from Rice for the final 40 minutes was fended off by the HCU defense as the match ended in a draw.
