2019: Pitched in seven games with two starts that totaled 15.1 innings… Made debut in the second weekend of the season against west coast power UC-Irvine… Started for the first time ten days later and was sensational against heavy-hitting crosstown rival Houston, firing a season-high 5.0 innings where he allowed just one earned run on three hits with no walks to earn a victory… Pitched briefly out of the bullpen three other times before making second start, and final appearance of the year, in a key Conference USA road series at Old Dominion on March 30… Had 8.1 innings in relief and 7.0 as a starter… Pitched a shutout relief inning against Big 12 power Oklahoma… Registered 2.0 scoreless frames against a 36-win Texas State squad at hitter-friendly MLB venue Minute Maid Park… Averaged 4.7 strikeouts per 9.0 innings of work.
2018: Earned a weekend starter’s role from work in the offseason and ended-up leading the team, and finishing fifth in Conference USA, in ERA (2.43)… Placed second on the Owl staff in both games started (11) and innings (63.0), and was third in strikeouts (53) despite being sidelined for three weeks early in the year… Bounced-back to rejoin his teammates on the field and proved to be one of the steadiest pitchers in the conference… Held opposing hitters to a composite .251 batting average, tied for the tenth-best mark in the league… Averaged more than 5.0 innings per start and pitched into the seventh four times… Left one game early (6.0 innings) when the offense erupted for an 18-1 lead… Maintained the second-lowest walks-percentage on the staff with just 2.3 free passes per 9.0 innings… Tallied the second-most double-play balls (7) on the team… Averaged 7.6 strikeouts per 9.0 innings on the way to a 3.3-to-1 strikeouts-to-walk ratio… Struck out a career-high 11 batters in game two of a C-USA road start at UTSA to help the Owls sweep a double-header… Fanned eight through the first 4.0 innings in the road finale at eventual conference champion Southern Miss – part of a ‘road warrior’ theme in his four starts away from Reckling Park (1.96 ERA, .225 OppBA, 28K, 4W in 23.0 road innings)… When the Owl batting order was hit by some injuries midway through the year, he started a Friday night C-USA game vs. Charlotte at first base before starting on the mound against the 49ers on Sunday – where he fired a career-long 7.1 innings without allowing any runs only to end-up with a no-decision… Finished the year taking four at bats… Moved to shore-up the bullpen in the final weekend of the year and ended up making three relief appearances in the C-USA Tournament where did not allow any runs… Earned his lone save of the season and struck out five in a total of 3.2 frames in the C-USA Tourney… Invited to pitch in the prestigious Cape Cod League (Cotuit) over the summer.
2017: Versatile contributor as a true freshman... Played in 33 of the team's 64 games as either a pitcher or infielder and worked his way into 12 starts... Made six starts at second base early in the season, four at first base, one at third late in the year vs. Lamar (when eventual MLB draft pick Dane Myerswas sidelined), and his first and only collegiate start on the mound in the team's final game of the year in the NCAA Tournament against nationally-ranked LSU... Didn't allow any walks in the NCAA Regional start against the Tigers, but could have used some defensive help from his teammates at rowdy Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge where he was charged with three unearned runs in the second inning... Regular pitching role was 22 relief appearances totaling 37.2 innings... Tied for fifth on the staff in appearances and posted the second-most innings (40.0) for an Owl freshman... Notched first collegiate win firing a career-long 4.1 innings on the road at Conference USA foe Western Kentucky... Posted a total of three wins, the fifth-highest total on the staff... Earned first Rice save (*on U.S. soil) with three perfect frames and three strikeouts against heavy-hitting Florida International... Tallied a career-high five strikeouts in 3.0 scoreless innings against eventual NCAA Tournament participant Southeastern Louisiana... Pitching was only part of the story, compiling 41 at bats with regular work as a starter at three infield positions... Started at second base in the series-opener against No. 11 ranked Stanford and went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored... Also logged a pair of base hits against crosstown foe Texas Southern playing in the NCAA Regional... Knocked a double in a C-USA game against UTSA... Started the game at first base batting seventh in the lineup, and was error-free in the field in nine defensive chances... Switched spots with starting pitcher Dane Myers in the bottom of the seventh inning and closed out the final 3.0 scoreless frames for an international save... Scattered two singles with no walks and one strikeout in the 4-0 shutout victory at Estadio 26 de Julio in Cuba.
High School - A 2016 graduate of Oak Ridge High School in Conroe, Texas... Two-year starter, and four-year baseball letterman, for head coach Mike Pirtle... Helped lead the War Eagles to the 6A Region II semifinals (fourth round) of the state tournament as a senior (before falling to the eventual 2016 champs Dallas Jesuit)... Led the squad to a 29-4 overall record and undefeated mark in District 16-6A on the way to the Region II finals (fifth round) as a junior in 2015 (one spot away from the state's final four teams)... Named to the 2015 Greater Houston Junior All-Star squad... Maintained a 2.05 ERA and averaged 11.2 strikeouts per 9.0 innings with a 0.80 WHIP... Contributed 16 RBI in 24 games on the offensive side as a junior... Played summer ball for 17u-Twelve... Named a 2016 Rawlings-Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-American...
