American Conference Opener
The Owls wrap up their three game road stretch with the American Conference opener Thursday night at UAB. Rice will finally return home next Thursday night against Florida Atlantic.
Last Time Out
Rice earned their third straight win behind a brace from Leah Chancey for a 2-0 win at Lamar Sunday night. Chancey scored her fourth and fifth goals of the season, upping her career goals to 16. She recorded the first brace of her career and has scored a goal in three straight matches.
Rice vs. UAB
This is the 20th installment of the series between the two, with the Owls holding a 12-6-1 series lead. Rice swept last season's matchups, with the latest coming in a 2-0 win in the American Conference Quarterfinals.
Weekly Honors
Rice earned two weekly awards for the American Conference, with Leah Chancey repeating as the American Offensive Player of the Week and Kirsten Ruf earning the American Goalkeeper of the Week honors. Chancey powered the Rice offense to a 1-0 week, recording her first career brace in a 2-0 win at Lamar Sunday night. Ruf receives her first career conference honor, after making eight saves in goal in Rice's 2-0 win over Lamar. This was the second shutout win of the season for the Owls.
Lee Earns Win 350
During Rice's 3-2 win over Oklahoma State on August 28, head coach Brian Lee recorded with 350th career win as a head coach. Coach Lee has been a head coach for 32 seasons with stops at Furman (11 seasons) and LSU (14 seasons) before taking over Rice in 2019 (7th season). Lee currently ranks 18th in wins by active DI coaches.
HTX Takeover in the RGV
The Owls had an offensive explosion at UTRGV, dropping six goals in the shutout win. The Owls' six goals are the most in a game since scoring eight against TSU during the 2020-21 season. The six goals are the most scored on the road since Rice had seven at Old Dominion in 2017.
Two Up, Two Down
Mariana Elizondo has opened the 2025 season on fire; netting goals in back-to-back matches, both being game-winning goals. The two goals tie a season high, when she scored twice back in the 2022 season (also the last time she scored before the 2025 campaign).
Take a Chance(y) On Me
Leah Chancey checked into the TopDrawerSoccer Top 100 list to open the 2025 season at No. 67. Chancey led the conference in goals (nine), points (22), shot accuracy (.528), shots on goal per game (1.40), and was second in game-winning goals (4), third in goal per game (.45), and fourth in points per game (1.10). She had a Rice record-breaking and NCAA-leading eight consecutive matches with a goal in 2024 and to no surprise, scored the Owls' opening goal of the 2025 season.

Dash Legend to South Main
Legendary Houston Dash goalkeeper and Olympic bronze medalist Jane Campbell is set to join the Rice soccer staff ahead of the 2025 season as a volunteer coach. Regarded as one of the greatest keepers in the NWSL, Campbell has appeared in over 150 games with the Houston Dash. She has also been part of the United States National Team, making the Olympic team in 2020 and serving as an alternate in 2024. She was voted as the 2023 NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year.
