Bruckner’s Late Goal Results in Draw at UAB

BIRMINGHAM – The Rice soccer team rallied for a late goal from Naija Bruckner as the Owls and UAB Blazers played to a 3-3 draw Thursday night in the American Conference opener. Rice moves to 5-1-1 (0-0-1 American) while UAB moves to 3-2-3 (0-0-1).
How It Happened
The Blazers cashed in a goal right out of the gate, scoring 59 seconds in off a corner kick to grab an early lead. Rice responded with its own corner kick goal by Jadyn Jaeger with Leah Chancey grabbing the assist. Chancey put Rice in front two minutes later with a penalty kick goal. The Owls led 2-1 at halftime.
The second half opened with UAB tying the match before later taking the lead by the 59-minute mark. Eileen Albers looked to tie the match back up a minute later, but her shot was scooped up by the Blazer keeper. Taylor Rish later had another chance to tie the match, but her shot fell wide. With under 10 minutes to go, Naija Bruckner had an open look and converted to tie the match. Both sides held on defense to finish with a 3-3 draw.
