
Owls Fall at #15 Texas

AUSTIN – The Rice soccer team fell on the road to 15th-ranked Texas Sunday afternoon 6-0 at Mike A. Myers Stadium. The Longhorns struck early and never looked back the Owls fall to 0-2 to open the 2023 season.
How It Happened
Texas took the lead early, with Trinity Byars scoring just under seven minutes into the match. Byars quickly doubled the Longhorn lead at the 12:03 mark before scoring her third goal of the game in the 21st-minute. The Owls were unable to get the offense clicking until Ellen Halseth fired off two shots, both on goal, recording the Owls only shots of the half.
The Longhorns picked up right where they left off in the second half with Lexi Missimo scoring four minutes into the half. Halseth had another chance with back-to-back shots minutes later, but a block and save prevented the Owls from scoring. Texas added back-to-back goals in the 74th-minute en route to the victory.
