
Second Half Eruption Sends Rice Past South Florida

HOUSTON – The Rice soccer team rallied from a halftime deficit to cruise past South Florida 3-1 Sunday afternoon at Holloway Field. With the win, Rice improves to 9-2-3 (3-1-3 American), while the Bulls fall to 6-7-1 (2-3-1 American).
How It Happened
The Owls made strides early, with Carsyn Martz firing a great shot in the opening minutes, but the USF keeper was there to make the save. Piper Biziorek and Leah Chancey later had two more chances, but the defense prevailed again. The Bulls struck for the opening goal in the 38th minute and held to the 1-0 lead at the half.
Eileen Albers found the tying goal just three minutes into the second half off a midfield pass from Biziorek. Soon after, Sophie Zhang put the Owls in front with her second goal of the season with under 25 minutes left to play. Albers closed the door with eight minutes remaining, scoring her second goal of the day for the 3-1 victory.
