2021: Hit a career-best .259 in 19 games (15 starts) for the Owls… Made six starts in right, six as the DH, and three in center… Hit .310 with runners on base (9x29)… Collected a career-best three hits vs. Texas A&M Corpus Christi on 3/6… Drove in a career-high three vs. Southern on 3/19 and drove in a pair the following day for the first, back-to-back multi-RBI games of his career.
2020: Started five of the last six games when the collegiate season came to an early end… Finished with seven starts and played in nine of the team’s 16 games… Made five starts in left field, one in right, and one as the designated hitter… Best game at the plate was collecting two hits and scoring a run vs. Louisiana... Appeared twice as a pinch hitter, delivering a double off the bench to help ignite a two-run rally in the bottom of the eighth vs. Missouri State… One of only three Owls to get a pinch base hit… Usually batted seventh in the lineup.
2019: Played 26 games, including 14 starts as a true freshman… Made 12 starts in the outfield, including seven in left and three in right… Twice started as the designated hitter… Subbed-in for the starting DH on opening day vs. Rhode Island and lined a base hit in his first collegiate at bat … Earned the start in left field the following day vs. the Rams and went 2-for-5 with a double, RBI, and run scored… Blasted first career home run against UC Irvine at Reckling Park… Slugged his second round-tripper while going 2-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs scored in a C-USA road clash at Marshall… Appeared in ten games as a pinch-hitter, the second-highest total on the team…Maintained a .300 average (6-for-20) when batting with two outs in the inning.
Prior to Rice: A 2018 graduate of Episcopal High School... Selected in the 37th round of the 2018 Major League Draft by Houston... Helped lead the Knights to back-to-back Southwest Preparatory Conference titles and a 25-8 record as a senior... Batted .340 with 38 hits and with 36 RBI in 33 games... Coached at Episcopal by former Rice Owl alum/letterman Matt Fox (2001)… Rice legacy player as a father, Jose Cruz Jr. (1993-1995), uncle Enrique Cruz (2001-2003), and older brother Trei (2018-20) played for the Owls...
