Rice Falls on Road to Top-Ranked Florida State

TALLAHASSEE – The Rice soccer team dropped a hard-fought 3-0 decision to the reigning national champion No. 1 Florida State Thursday night at Seminole Soccer Complex. The Owls suffer their first loss of the season to fall to 2-1.
How It Happened
Faith Hutchins and the Rice defense were tested early, fending off several shots in the opening minutes from Florida State. The Seminoles rattled off shots once again in the 27th and 29th minutes, but Hutchins was able to make the saves. FSU struck for the first goal of the game shortly after. Leah Chancey looked to tie the match back up a minute later, but her shot was wide left. The 1-0 score held at halftime.
The Rice defense was tested again in the early goings of the second half, but Hutchins and crew were there to keep the deficit at one. The Seminoles scored their second goal with under 20 minutes left in the match, with a third coming in the 82nd minute.
