Owls Next Host Texas A&M On Monday Night
HOUSTON — The visiting Rice Soccer team held a 7-6 advantage in shots, including a 4-3 edge in shots-on-goal, but Houston claimed a 2-0 victory over the Owls in a non-conference match Thursday night across town at the U.H. Soccer Field.
Scoring Story
For the second time in as many games Rice fell behind by a pair of goals in the first half. The Owls were down 2-0 to North Texas on Sunday in a C-USA league game. Houston took a 1-0 lead in the game's eighth minute on a goal by Jazmin Grant after a pass from Zionah Browne. The Cougars stretched the margin to 2-0 in the 24th minute with a unassisted breakaway goal by Adriana Hutson.
Best Chances
Rice was close on some scoring chances. In the 18th minute, Madison Kent fired a low line drive that was saved by UH. In the 41st minute, Natalie Gorgi's rocket shot attempt was just wide of the left post. In the 86th and 87th minutes, Houston made saves on senior Haley Kostyshyn's back-to-back shot attempts.
For The Record
Rice was defeated for only the second time and is now 4-2-0 on the season. Houston moved to 3-1-1 on the year.
