THIS WEEK: The Rice soccer team is back on the road for a Conference USA league game this weekend as the Owls play at Louisiana Tech on Sunday (Oct. 13) at 1 pm.
QUICK ON THE OWLS (6-4-1, 3-0-1 C-USA): Rice is 6-4-1 overall but a closer look at the team's schedule is in order. The team's four losses have been to Alabama, Oregon State, South Florida and SMU – who entered this week with a combined record of 31-11-3. Rice had a gritty performance to begin C-USA action with a 1-0 victory over Charlotte. The Owls picked up four points in a pair of C-USA road games (Sept. 26-29) by rallying from a 2-0 deficit to tie Middle Tennessee 2-2, then turning right around and winning at UTSA 1-0. Last weekend the Blue & Gray again used late heroics to defeat UAB at home 1-0.
COACH'S CORNER: Rice soccer is under the direction of head coach Brian Lee, who is in his first season at the helm of the program. A 2018 finalist for National Coach of the Year with 25 years of experience as a Division I head coach, Lee enters this week's game with a career record of 293-192-56. Lee's Rice coaching staff includes Megan Kinneman, Travis Curson and Allysha Chapman, all in their first year with the Owl program. Coach Lee's weekly video preview is available at the above link.
SERIES HISTORY VS. LA TECH: Rice leads the series with Louisiana Tech, 6-0-0. The Owls have won twice in Ruston, including the inaugural meeting in 2013 by a score of 3-0 and by a 4-0 margin in 2016. The Blue & Gray have defeated the Bulldogs three times at Holloway field and once at a neutral site while playing in the 2014 C-USA Tournament.
