Owls Next Host Tulsa Sunday At 2 PM
Ashley Anderson (now Ashley Gibson; Jones College, final soccer season in 2004) "It's been 13 years, but my memory of life within the hedges is sharper than ever. So thankful for having a hand, and a couple feet, in starting an amazing program and watching it flourish over the years. I built friendships that are still strong all these years later (It's R Party, ya'll!!) and a competitive spirit that allows me to take all my indoor teams way too seriously.
Since graduating, I matured significantly, but not completely. I started my career in sales and event management at NRG stadium before heading to OU Health Science Center to become a Registered Dietitian. In grad school, I was awarded the prestigious "Most Likely to Overthink the Meaning of This Award" award which is displayed proudly at my home. I fully planned to return to MyHappyPlace in Houston after grad school, but fell in love with and married a Navy Sailor (who only flies) stationed here in Oklahoma City... so here we are raising our two wayward sons, Thomas and Liam. I've spent the last five years feeding the malnourished at St. Anthony hospital in OKC until accepting a new challenge about a month ago in Sales/Marketing for a home health company. If you find yourself in need of home healthcare in Oklahoma City, call me."
Marissa Galvan (now Marissa Alger; Martel College, final soccer season in 2004) "I live in Washington, D.C. with my husband (fellow Rice Owl, Jordy Alger) and our two kids Leon (6) and Beatriz (2.5). For the past five years, I have been working for the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School where I teach academic and professional communication to international graduate students. I hope to pass along to my students, as well as my children, what Rice has taught me, which is that learning opportunities are everywhere. My engaging professors, brilliant and diverse classmates, inspirational teammates, and of course my triumphs and failures at Rice all contributed to greater self-understanding and a deeper sense of purpose within our global community."
Kelly Brolan (now Kelly Halsup; Lovett College, final soccer season in 2005) "My family and I just moved to Shreveport, La., in August from the Destin, Fla., area. My husband and I are both Majors in the U.S. Air Force. We're JAGs, serving as lawyers in the A.F. I've been in the military almost eight years now and truly enjoy it. I'm on my third duty location but sixth assignment. I deployed to Afghanistan for six months back in 2014. I'm currently the Deputy Staff Judge Advocate at Barksdale AFB."
Caitlin Currie (now Caitlin Tessin; Wiess College, final soccer season in 2004) "My experience at Rice was the perfect mix of physical discipline, competitiveness and academic challenges. The best part by far was the life-long friends I've made and still talk to all the time. Teammates for life through every stage. The one thing I definitely won't miss and still remember not-so-fondly every August is pre-season! I just celebrated 10 years (how did that happen?) at an energy company, Enbridge. During that time, I lead the communications department, worked in Jersey City for a couple years on a pipeline project and now am Director, Market Innovation overseeing our renewable investments and strategies. I am officially a "twice-Ricer" having gone back in 2012 to get my MBA."
