Soccer Team Falls At UW-Milwaukee 1-0 Sunday

MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- Wisconsin-Milwaukee scored the lone goal of the game in the second half to claim a 1-0 win over the visiting Rice soccer team Sunday afternoon on the road in Wisconsin. With the loss Rice dropped to 0-2-1 on the season.
The teams were scoreless for the first half, but the Panthers held a 12-2 advantage in shots and pressured Owl goalkeeper Meghan Erkel into seven saves before the intermission. In the game's 55th minute, UMW's Laurel Ragalie hit a close range shot in front of the Rice net after a passes from Helen Steinhouser and Kate Megna.
Rice was out-shot in the game 22-4 and was blanked for a second-straight road outing in Milwaukee. The Owls lost by the same 1-0 margin to Marquette on Friday night. Owl senior forward Erin Scott led the team with two shots, including one on-goal in the 53rd minute. Junior Jordan Holloway's header was corralled for a Panther save in the 70th minute. Erkel finished with 10 saves on the day and was just one away from tying a career-high.
The Owls next play on Friday, Sept. 4, at Stephen F. Austin to continue the current three-game road stretch. Game time in Nacogdoches is set for 7 pm. The Owls return to play at home on Sept. 6 against TCU in a 6 pm contest.
