Rice senior defender Erin Droeger was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI Soccer Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Droeger, who earned first team all-Conference USA for her soccer skills earlier this week, maintained a 3.48 grade point average with a double-major in psychology and kinesiology. As a first team all-district selection, Droeger is now eligible to earn NCAA Academic All-America honors.
The Huntington Beach, Calif., native is a three-time Western Athletic Conference all-academic honoree. She has started every Rice game in which she has played dating back to her freshman year in 2002, giving her total of 77 career starts to tie for the most in school history. One of the most respected defenders in the region, Droeger has served as the Owls' team captain the last two seasons.
The Rice soccer team (11-6-1) meets East Carolina in the semifinals of the C-USA Tournament on Friday, Nov. 4. Start time for the match is 7:30 pm. Tournament action continues at the Rice Track/Soccer Stadium through the championship game on Sunday. The championship finale starts at 1 pm and will be televised by CSTV.
