DALLAS - Behind a spectacular five-goal weekend, including two game-winners and a hat trick against UTEP, Rice freshman forward Caitlin Robbins has been named the Conference USA co-offensive player of the week for women's soccer the league office announced on Monday.
Robbins scored an eye-opening five goals to lead the Owls to a pair of C-USA wins last week. After scoring two goals in Friday night's 3-1 win over Tulane, she recorded the team's second hat-trick of the season with all three goals in the 3-1 victory over then first place UTEP. Robbins scored on five of her team-high 13 shots for a .385 shooting-percentage. She had the Owls' game-winning goals for both victories.
A local standout from nearby Lamar High School, Robbins has established new school records for goals (11) and points (27) in a single season. She also tied the Rice record for game-winning goals in a single season (4) and is tied for third in shots-on-goal (22).
It is the second time for Robbins to earn the C-USA honor. She was also named the player of the week after the first weekend of the season on Aug. 29. Robbins shared the player of the week award with Shoko Mikami of Memphis. SMU's Carley Phillips became the second-straight Mustang to win defensive honors.
The Rice soccer team returns to the road this week for its final two regular season games at UCF and Southern Miss before hosting the C-USA Championship Nov. 2-6. The Owls meet UCF in Orlando at 6 pm Friday (Oct. 28) and Southern Miss in Hattiesburg on Sunday (Oct. 30) at 1 pm.
