Bio
At Rice
2020: Tied for fifth on the staff with five appearances, one of which was a starting assignment… Lone start was a season-long 4.2 innings against nationally-ranked Texas the opening weekend of the season… Had just begun to string together some steady relief outings when the season came to abrupt end, a combined total of 5.2 consecutive no-hit innings against longtime rivals Texas Tech, Texas A&M and Texas State… Held opponents to a composite .250 batting average.
2019: All-Silver Glove Series (Most Outstanding Player)… Worked hard at improving in his second year with the program and developed into a regular midweek starter’s role… Finished fourth on the staff in starts (9) and innings (45.1), and was third overall in opponents’ batting average (.265)… Recorded a 4.37 ERA in 17 total appearances… Averaged 5.4 strikeouts per 9.0 innings with a 1.4-to-1 strikeouts-to-walk ratio… Maintained a steady 3.69 ERA and .258 opponents’ average in nine starts… Fired a career-long 7.0 innings in a Conference USA road start at Marshall on the final weekend of the regular season, allowing just one run on five hits in a no-decision… Started against Marshall once again a week later in the C-USA Tournament and posted a career-high four strikeouts in 4.1 innings… After pitching 3.0 sterling innings in relief in the opening weekend of the season against Rhode Island, he was rewarded his first career start against Pac 12 power Arizona in a midweek game four days later… Rice’s midweek starter’s role piled up a near Who’s Who list of opponents that included Arizona, Texas A&M, Texas, Sam Houston State and Houston to name just a few… Faced crosstown rival Houston twice in the annual season-long three game series for the Silver Glove Trophy and was selected as the Most Outstanding Player… Allowed just three base hits in a combined 6.2 scoreless frames against the heavy-hitting Houston... Notched first career victory in a start against longtime foe Prairie View without allowing an earned run nor a any walks in 5.0 innings.
2018: Appeared in five games out of the bullpen totaling 3.1 innings in first season of Division I baseball… Made NCAA debut in the series-opener on the road at No. 9 ranked Stanford and fired a scoreless frame… Each of the next four outings were all against high-caliber teams, including three that would go on to reach the NCAA Tournament (Texas A&M, Houston and Sam Houston State)… Played summer ball in the Great Lakes League (Lake Erie).
Joined the Owls from Cy Ranch High School in Cypress, Texas, just northwest of Houston... Two-year varsity letterman... Coached by Corey Cephus as a senior in 2017 and by former Cy Ranch head coach John Pope (a Rice letterman and former assistant coach) in the spring of 2016... Named the Houston 6A MVP after leading the Mustangs to a 27-8 record and the District 17-6A title... Compiled a 12-0 record on the mound with a 0.38 ERA... Pitched eight complete games with five shutouts, and struck out 72 batters in 74.1 innings of work... Born: July 3
