Rice Soccer Announces 2023 Fall Schedule

Rice Owls Soccer is Ready to Compete Against Top Teams in Inaugural AAC Season
HOUSTON - The Rice Soccer team kicks off its first season in the American Athletic Conference this year, unveiling its 2023 Fall schedule. The challenging slate features eight teams that achieved 10 wins last season, including five participants in the 2022 NCAA tournament.
Following their 11-8-1 record last year, Rice secured the Conference USA regular season championship for the second time in three years.
"The AAC is a multi-bid soccer league with will change our non-conference scheduling a bit," said Head Coach Brian Lee. "Texas, Texas A&M, and Xavier are marquee matchups and high probability NCAA Tournament teams. AAC soccer is a top eight league and C-USA additions are all of our best teams. It will be a fun first year in a new league for all of us."
The season begins with a pair of exhibition matches against Stephen F. Austin on August 8th and NCAA Sweet Sixteen participant TCU on August 12th. In a historic first, Rice opens the regular season with three consecutive road matches, starting with Incarnate Word on August 17th, followed by a faceoff against rival and NCAA participant Texas on August 20th. The final road match takes place on August 27th against Northwestern State.
Rice's home debut is scheduled for August 31st against crosstown rival Houston. They then hit the road again for matches against Loyola (Md.) on September 3rd and Sam Houston on September 7th. Returning home, the Owls engage in three matches, including a showdown with NCAA Tournament participant Texas A&M on September 10th.
On September 14th, the Owls kick off their inaugural season in the AAC by hosting SMU. The non-conference slate concludes with a home match against NCAA participant Xavier on September 17th. Rice resumes conference play on September 21st with an away match against North Texas in Denton, followed by a road trip to face Tulsa on September 28th.
October 5th marks the beginning of Rice's home matches as they host AAC champion Memphis. Their final road trip of the year takes them to Temple on October 12th and UAB on October 15th. The regular season concludes with three consecutive home matches, starting on October 19th against South Florida. Holloway Field will welcome Florida Atlantic on October 22nd. Finally, Senior Day will be celebrated on October 26th as the Owls face Conference USA Champion UTSA.
