Rice hosts HBU on Tuesday night
In Brief: FAU held Rice to four hits and broke open a tight contest with four runs in the sixth as the visiting Owls completed the sweep of the host Owls, 7-1 on Sunday afternoon at Reckling Park.
The Details: The day started on a promising note as starter Brandon Deskins retired the side and struck out two in the top half of the first. Jack Riedel led off the bottom of the first with a single and advanced to second with two outs on a balk by FAU starter Tyler Burnham. Austin Bulman followed with a double down the line in left to score Riedel and extend his career-best hitting streak to eight games. Deskins worked out of a jam in the second while striking out three, but FAU chased him in the third after tying the game on a wild pitch and loading the bases with two out. Dalton Wood came on in relief and stymied the threat, but FAU tagged him for two runs in the fourth to take the lead for good. Jacob Josey relieved Burnham after four innings and limited Rice to a pair of singles by Riedel and Hal Hughes over the final five innings while fanning eight to pick up the victory.
