2023: Set career-highs for wins (4), appearances (26), innings (42.2), and strikeouts (56)… Opened the season by matching his career-high by striking out 8 (in 3.2 innings) vs. Louisiana on 2/19… Fanned five or more in four additional games (6 at UAB on 3/17, 5 as Sam Houston on 2/28, vs. HCU on 3/10 and vs. Charlotte on 4/16… Earned his first career win at Sam Houston on 2/28 (3.1,2,1,1,0,5), his second at UAB on 3/17 (4,1,0,0,3,6) and then in back-to-back appearances vs. FIU on 5/18 (1.1,1,0,0,0,2) and 5/19 (1,0,0,0,1,0) as the Owls cinched the final spot at the C-USA Championship… 2-0 with a 3.31 ERA over his last 10 appearances (14.1, 10, 5, 5,3, 17)… 3-1 with a 4.56 ERA in 14 C-USA appearances… 4-0 with a 2.18 ERA and both saves in 12 appearances at night (20.2,11,5,5,9,27)… Held righthanded hitters to a .149 batting average (14x94). 2022: Became a commanding presence in the back end of the Owls bullpen… Led the Owls with five saves, 15.6 strikeouts per nine innings, 18 games finished, a .218 opponents batting average and a 1.20 WHIP, second with 23 appearances and third with 52 strikeouts (in 30 innings)… Came into the season with 10 appearances and a 7.15 ERA, but did not allow a run in his first 15 appearances while wracking up four saves… Struck out the side in four consecutive appearances (Lamar on 2/27, Harvard on 3/6, Texas Tech on 3/13 and Sam Houston on 3/16)… Earned his first career save in his outing vs. Lamar and his second vs. Harvard… Fanned four in 1.2 innings vs. UAB for his third save and fanned a pair at Marshall for his fourth save in seven appearances… Worked three innings for the first time in his career while striking out a career-high eight at LA Tech on 4/10 and came back to strike out the side at Sam Houston two days later… Struck out the side for the fifth time in the season at Charlotte on 5/8… Did not have a save opportunity over 11 appearances from 4/22 to 5/19 before ending the season by closing out the Owls’ 3-1 win on 5/21 at FIU… Gave up only one home run in 30 innings.
2021: Made 11 appearances, including a pair of starts in his first collegiate action… Made his debut at Louisiana on 2/28, and posted a 1.23 ERA over his first six appearances… Twice worked his season-high of two innings (vs. Southern on 3/19 and Middle Tennessee on 4/3)… Struck out a season-high three vs. Southern, part of a stretch of seven in five innings over three outings from 3/19 -4/3).
Prior to Rice- Versatile right-handed pitcher from Atascocita High School … Pitched in six games a junior in 2019, working his way into one start… Posted a 2-0 record and finished with a 1.75 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 8.0 innings of work… Was named the most valuable pitcher and to the all-tournament team for his club at the 2019 WWBA 17U South National Championship.
