
Seven Owls Earn All-Conference Honors

HOUSTON — After an undefeated conference season that saw them win the Conference USA regular season championship, seven Rice Soccer players were awarded All-Conference honors, including two of its major awards, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Grace Collins was named the Offensive Player of the Year, while Bella Killgore earned the second Goalkeeper of the Year award of her career. Collins, Killgore, and midfielder Delaney Schultz were named First Team All-Conference USA, and defender Mikala Furuto and midfielder Madi Allen were named to the Second Team. Defender Carsyn Martz and midfielder Kallie McKinney earned All-Freshman honors.
Collins becomes the second Owl to earn Offensive Player of the Year, joining Lauren Hughes who won it in 2015 and 2016. In her lone season on South Main, Collins leads C-USA in points (24), points per game (1.26), assists (8) and game-winning goals (3) while placing second in goals (8), assists per game (0.42) and shot accuracy (.512) and is third in goals per game (0.42). She's also second with three multi-point games. The Houston native has scored or assisted on 16 of Rice's 28 goals and five of her eight goals have given Rice the lead. Her 24 points are tied for the fifth-most in a season in school history. Against Incarnate Word, she tied a C-USA record with five assists. Collins became the second Owl to be named the United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week (Oct. 19), and was also named to TopDrawerSoccer's Midseason Top 100.
Killgore becomes the first keeper in C-USA history to earn the award twice. She has also been named All-Conference for the third time, including her second First Team honor. She has started every game, playing 98.9% of the team's minutes, leading C-USA with 86 saves and eight shutouts…in conference games, she leads the league in shutouts (7), goals against average (0.30) and save percentage (.942) while allowing just three goals. The Houston native became the first goalkeeper in Conference USA history with 350 career saves, 45 wins and, 25 shutouts while winning the C-USA Goalkeeper of the Week Award five times this year, including a record four straight.
Schultz is named to the First Team for the second straight year and All-Conference for the fourth straight time. She leads Conference USA in game-winning goals (3) and multi-point games. In conference play, she is second in goals (5), goals per game (0.50), points (12) and points per game (1.20). is second on the team with five goals and 12 points. She became the third player in school history with 25 career goals and 70 career points and was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week (Oct. 10) and the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week (Oct. 11).
Furuto is named to the All-Conference team for the first time after earning All-Freshman honors in 2020-21. She started all 19 games, placing fourth on the team with two goals. Both of her goals came against Incarnate Word, her first career multi-goal game. As a defender, she helped limit the opposition to 13.1 shots per game and 6.0 shot on goal per game. In conference play, helped the defense to limit the opposition to just three total goals, and leads the league in total interceptions with 108.
In her only season on South Main, Allen has played and started 18 of the 19 matches. She has a .375 shots on goal percentage and scored the game-winning goal against Incarnate Word.
Martz started the first 14 games before suffering an injury, playing. Prior to the injury, she helped limit the opposition to 13.4 shots per game and 6.4 shots on goal. In conference play, helped the defense limit the opposition to just two total goals. She's tied for 2nd in the conference in interceptions per game on the season overall with 10 per game, and is tied for the conference lead in total blocked shots with 17.
In her first season, McKinney has played in 16 matches, making 12 starts. She has a .400 shots on goal percentage, and two of her three assists came on game-winning goals.
The Owls begin the Conference USA Tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 2, when it faces host Charlotte. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
