Martin in the Hunt Heading into Final Round of C-USA Championship

Texarkana, Ark. — Freshman golfer Rodrigo Martin fired a three-under par 69 to sit in sixth-place heading into the final round of the Conference USA Championships.
Martin is four-under par, three strokes behind individual leader Gustav Fransson of Old Dominion. The 69 is his second round in the 60's this year and fifth round of par or better.
The Guadalajara, Spain native began the day with bogeys on holes 10 and 14 to start two-over through the first six holes. However, Martin began to make his move, recording three straight birdies on holes 16 through 18 to make the turn at one-under.
Martin began the front nine with a par on hole #1, but birdied the second and sixth hole. He dropped a shot with a bogey on seven, but got it back with his sixth birdie of the day on the eighth hole. He closed out the round with a par on the ninth.
Senior Jake Benson made a huge jump in the standings, moving up 21 spots into a tie for 42nd-place at six-over after firing a 69 to tie his season-best round.
Juniors Harrison Hineline and Jack Diamond both carded a 77 to sit seven-over par in a tie for 47th-place. Senior Rishi Kejriwal rounded out the day with an 83 to sit in a tie for 61st-place.
Rice is in ninth-place at 10-over par after carding a four-over 292, seven strokes behind Louisiana Tech and Old Dominion for seventh-place.
Middle Tennessee leads the team tournament at five-under par, two strokes in front of second-place Charlotte and UTSA.

The final round begins tomorrow at 8 a.m. Rice will tee off from hole No. 10 and is paired with student-athletes from Old Dominion and UTEP.
