Owls Host Jayhawks as Homestand Continues

C-USA Mental Health Awareness Green Out Game
In Brief: The Rice women's tennis team (6-6) continues its longest homestand of the season by hosting No. 31 Kansas on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.

Green Out Game: Members of the Rice tennis team will be wearing green wristbands on Saturday as part of Conference USA's Mental Health Awareness Initiative. Launched during the 2019-20 academic year as a collaboration between Conference USA and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) at each member institution, "Green Out" games support mental health awareness. C-USA encourages all to stand up to the stigma and continue the conversation, including using the hashtag #ContinueTheConversation on social media.

Kansas: The Jayhawks are 6-4 this season and are coming off a 4-3 win at #29 Northwestern last Sunday to extend their winning streak to four matches. Three of their four losses have come to ranked opponents, including a 6-1 loss to #5 NC State earlier this year. Rice dropped a 4-2 decision to the Wolfpack on January 25. This is the second meeting between the schools. Kansas downed the Owls 6-1 last year in Lawrence.

George R. Brown Tennis Center: Rice has posted a 49-12 regular season record at GRBTC (9-0 in C-USA play) since making their debut at their new home by defeating Lamar 7-0 on 1/17/15. The Owls have also posted a 6-0 postseason mark while winning a pair of Conference USA titles at home (2015 & 2019).
The Schedule Ahead: The Owls remaining schedule features two teams currently in the Oracle/ITA national rankings: (#39 Washington State, 3/15 and @#13 Princeton (Williamsburg, VA).

- Junior Anna Bowtell was named the C-USA Female Tennis Athlete of the Week on 2/26 and extended her winning streak in singles to eight matches with a pair of wins last weekend. She leads the team with a 9-1 record in singles while Niezgoda is second at 8-3.
- Rice is 7-5 so far this year in the doubles point (6-1 when winning the point).
- The Owls are 7-3 so far in singles tiebreakers and 4-4 in supersets
