Benson’s 67 Leads Owls at Border Olympics

Laredo, Texas — Junior Jake Benson fired a 67 in the second round of the Border Olympics, played at the par-72, 7,297-yard Max Mandel Golf Course and hosted by Houston.
The 67 tied his career-low round (2018 Trinity Forest Invitational). Benson began the day with a 78 to sit one-over par in a tie for 19th-place. It was his second round in the 60's this year and the eighth of his career. It was also his team-leading 12th round of par or better this year and the 35th of his career.
Rice carded rounds of 299-287 to head into the final round in ninth-place at 10-over par, one stroke back of Lamar and just four strokes back of fifth-place. The second round 287 was Rice's fifth round of par or better this year.
Freshman Thomas Bockholt III is also tied for 19th-place after posting rounds of 75-70. The 70 is his fourth round of par of better this year.
Senior Nicholas Duggan opened the tournament with a one-under par 71 before shooting a 75 to sit two-over par and tied for 27th-place. The 71 was his sixth round of par or better this year and the 26th of his career.
Junior Rishi Kejriwal is tied for 63rd-place at seven-over par after posting rounds of 75-76 and sophomore Campbell Gibson rounds out the Owls in 92nd-place.
