Final Rice Soccer Home Game Set For Nov. 1 vs. North Texas
BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Rice soccer team battled back to within one goal twice in the second half, but Florida Atlantic claimed a 3-2 Conference USA home win Sunday afternoon in Boca Raton, Fla.
First C-USA Defeat
After going unbeaten all the way to the second-to-last game of the C-USA regular season, Rice was defeated for the first time by an FAU squad that now sits in sole possession of first place in the conference standings. Rice is 6-1-2 in C-USA matches and 9-5-2 for the full season. FAU improved to 13-3-1 overall and 7-1-1 against the league.

"FAU is an excellent team and deserve their lofty national ranking," said Rice head coach Brian Lee. "Our fight back was good, but we need to be hitting on all cylinders to compete with them right now. Today was not our day."
C-USA Standings Watch
With six wins (worth three points each) and two ties (each worth one point) Rice is in sole possession of fourth place in the C-USA standings with 20 points. FAU is the new first place team with 22 points. Charlotte and North Texas (both 7-2 overall) are tied for second place with 21 points. Western Kentucky (5-4-0) holds sole possession of fifth place in the standings with 15 points. Every team in the league closes-out its C-USA regular season schedule with one final game this week.

The Owls have already mathematically clinched a spot in the upcoming C-USA Championship tournament. The league's postseason clash, where the automatic bid to the NCAA Championship is on the line, is scheduled for Nov. 6-10 in Denton, Texas. The final seeding of the single-elimination tournament is yet to be finalized.

The Rice goals were scored in the second half, by the senior tandem of Louise Stephens and Erin Mikeska. Stephens notched her team-leading seventh goal of the season with an assist from fellow senior Haley Kostyshyn to make the score 2-1 in the 52nd minute. FAU rallied with a goal in the 64th minute to make it a 3-1 game, but Mikeska brought the Blue & Gray back to within one by converting on a penalty kick in the 86th minute. The goal was Mikeska's third of the season.

Rice next hosts North Texas to close out the regular season slate on Friday (Nov. 1). Start time against the Mean Green is set for 7 pm at Holloway Field. The Rice seniors will be honored before the start of the contest.
