Rice finishes in 12th-place
Carrollton, Texas — Sophomore Jake Benson tied for ninth-place at the Maridoe Intercollegiate, played at the par-70, 7,043-yard Maridoe Golf Club.
The Nottingham, England native carded a 72 to finish eight-over par. The ninth-place finish was a career-best.
Rice finished in 12th-place at 73-over par.
Senior Grant Rogers posted a 73 to finish 16-over in a season-best tie for 30th-place. Junior Nicholas Duggan shot a 74 to finish in a tie for 61st-place (+25) and freshman Harrison Hineline tied for 66th-place at 28-over par after posting a 76. Sophomore Rishi Kejriwal withdrew after injuring his wrist in yesterday's round.
"We were forced to play with only four guys after Rishi suffered a strained ligament in his hand," said Rice head coach Justin Emil. "He fought through it yesterday and helped the team, but it was just too much for him to play today. I'm proud of the effort he gave and the way the team stepped up without him. Jake played solid and got a top ten in a really good field. He's playing really well."
SMU won the tournament at 21-over par, 14 strokes in front of Texas A&M. Texas A&M's Walker Lee earned medalist honors at four-over par.
Rice closes the fall slate Oct. 27-28 when it travels to Loxley, Ala., for the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational.
