
Benson Tied for Seventh at Steelwood Collegiate Invitational

The sophomore is one-under par
Loxley, Ala. — Jake Benson is tied for seventh-place at one-under par heading into the final round of the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational, played at the par-72, 7,096-yard Steelwood Country Club.
The sophomore began the day with a 71 before finishing with a 72. The two rounds of par give him seven on the year and 15 in his career.
Rice is in ninth-place at 13-over par after rounds of 299-290.
Senior Grant Rogers carded rounds of 74-73 to post a season-best 36-hole score of 147 and sit in a tie for 28th-place at three-over par. Junior Nicholas Duggan is tied for 50th-place at six-over par. He began the day with an 80 but rebounded to fire a second round 70. It was his fourth round of par or better this year and the 15th of his career.
Senior Mason Weld is tied for 54th-place at seven-over par, posting a season-best 74 before shooting a 77. Freshman Jack Diamond, playing in his first collegiate tournament, posted rounds of 79-77 to sit 12-over par in a tie for 65th-place and sophomore Rishi Kejriwal is tied for 68th-place at 16-over par after carding rounds of 85-75.
"The guys fought back in the second round after a slow start in round one," said Rice head coach Justin Emil. "We needed a solid round heading into tomorrow."
No. 7 Wake Forest leads the tournament lead at 13-under par, nine strokes in front of Kennesaw State. Indiana's Brock Ochsenreiter leads the individual tournament at seven-under par, one stroke in front of Eric Bae of Wake Forest.
Rice tees off in the final round tomorrow at 9:03 a.m. CT. The Owls are paired with student-athletes from Kansas State and Southern Miss.
