TEXARKANA, Ark. - Rice did not make up any ground on the field Monday and will head into Tuesday's final round of the Conference USA Men's Golf Championship where it started the tournament's second round, in 10th place.
The tournament resumed Monday morning at the Texarkana Country Club following a two-hour delay due to weather. The tournament field was able to get in 18 holes of play before weather once again moved into the area.
With the rain and winds, only five golfers registered subpar scores as team scores climbed. Rice shot a 306 Monday and has a two-round score of 601 (+25).
"It was very disappointing because we had an opportunity to have an excellent round today and move up but we didn't take advantage of it," said Rice coach Drew Scott.
Led by freshman John Young Kim's four-under 68, Tulsa moved into the lead in the team standings. The Golden Hurricane shot a 288 and has a two-round score of 577 (+1), three strokes ahead of Memphis.
With 18 holes to play, Kim shares the lead with Memphis' Jonathan Fly who also began the day with a share of the lead before a 73 Monday left him four-under par for the tournament along with Kim.
Rice senior Michael Whitehead shot a two-over par 74 on Monday and remains tied for eighth. His even-par 144 through two rounds is four strokes off the tournament lead.
Whitehead, currently ranked 34th by Golfstat, will look for a strong finish and an opportunity to vie for the individual championship on Tuesday.
Also shooting a 74 for the Owls on Monday was freshman Jeff Wibawa. The rookie is currently tied for 25th with a two-round score of 148 (+4).
"Tomorrow is a very important round individually but hopefully everyone has a positive experience and we can have a very solid round tomorrow to end the year."
Tuesday's round is slated for an 8 a.m. shotgun start and the Owls will be paired with UTEP.
