After dispatching Lee College 7-0 on Wednesday at Hess Tennis Stadium, Elizabeth Schmidt's Rice women's tennis team will take a different route than most Spring Break travelers, heading north for a pair of matches.
The Owls will be in Kalamazoo, Michigan on Saturday to take on 61st-ranked Western Michigan and then move on to Columbus, Ohio on Tuesday to take on No. 37 Ohio State.
"Western Michigan and Ohio St. have both had solid starts to their season," Schmidt said. "Both matches will be hard-fought and physical. We have had a great week of practice coupled with our win yesterday and are looking forward to both of these battles," she added.
The Owls rebounding from a tough road trip last weekend by sweeping Lee College on Wednesday to run their season record to 9-4. They grabbed the doubles point while only losing a combined three games and then took all six singles contests in straight sets.
"I was pleased with how the team competed," Schmidt said. "They were very focused and did a good job from start to finish. We are all fired up for our upcoming road trip and looking forward to taking on two solid opponents," she added.
