The Rice women's tennis team started fast and never looked back, taking the first five match points to post a 5-2 over Texas Tech at the McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock.
"I was extremely proud of how we came out and attacked at the start," Rice head coach Elizabeth Schmidt said. "As with Arizona, the doubles matches set an early tone, but we did a much better job of carrying it over into singles today," she added.
The Owls (8-2) raced to grab the doubles point in short order. Alex Rasch and Rebecca Lin won the No. 3 match 8-1 and Rice's No. 2 pairing of Jessica Jackson and Varsha Shiva-Shankar followed with an 8-4 to nail down the point.
Unlike their 4-3 loss to Arizona in Lubbock on Saturday, the Owls continued their strong play into the singles matches.
Jackson won the No. 3 singles in straight sets, followed by Rasch in the No. 6 match. Shiva-Shankar then clinched the match with a three-set win.
The Owls will be back on the court next weekend in Seattle, Washington when they will meet Sacramento State and the University of Washington.
