The Rice Owls' women's tennis team battled through a tight set of opening doubles matches to sweep past Texas Arlington, 6-1 at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
"The team had a very solid performance today and I was pleased with our effort" head coach Elizabeth Schmidt said. "Everyone played very disciplined and that was the difference in this match. We came out with alot of energy in doubles and winning all three really set the tone for us heading into the singles. Now, it is time to refocus and get ready for Texas State tomorrow," she added.
The Owls took the doubles point thanks to 8-6 wins in No. 3 and No. 2 doubles, then raced to wins in five of six singles matches to run their record to 4-1 on the season. They will be back on the court at 11 a.m. on Sunday when they host Texas State.
