FORT WORTH - The Rice women's tennis team wrapped up consolation action Sunday at the Wilson/ITA Southwest Regional Championships from the Bayard H. Freidman Tennis Center on the TCU campus.
In doubles action, Julie Chao teamed with Guzman to score an 8-6 upset over No. 7 seed Stephanie Davison and Caroline Larsson of Texas.
"I was pleased with Julie and Ana's performance in doubles today," head coach Elizabeth Schmidt said. "They have been playing more aggressive doubles each match and that was the difference today that allowed them to pull an upset."
The Owls also split four singles matches against the Longhorns. Ana Guzman and Emily Braid picked up straight set victories over Maya Zein-El-Abdin and Julia Wiegard, respectively.
Rice concludes the fall season playing host to its annual reunion event on November 8 at Jake Hess Stadium.
"We were able to play a lot of tennis this weekend which is the goal of the fall season," Schmidt said. "I'm happy about the direction our team is headed and am looking forward to the dual match season in the spring."
