National team of the week for Soccer Buzz (Nov. 8)
For their outstanding play during the Conference USA Tournament Nov. 2-6, the Rice freshman duo of forward Anne Candee and goalkeeper Adriene Giese were named to the national honor teams of the week for Nov. 8 by the Internet publications Soccer Buzz and Soccer America, respectively.
Candee was named to the Soccer Buzz team of the week after three stellar games that saw her selected as the tournament's offensive MVP. The true freshman from Dallas had three goals and two assists for the week-long event. Candee was the catalyst who had a part in five of the team's six goals in the Owls' run to the championship.
She is only the third Owl in school history to be selected to Soccer Buzz' national team of the week. Freshman Caitlin Robbins was named to its weekly individual honors list on Oct. 26 of this season. Senior Erin Droeger earned the honor on Nov. 3, 2004.
Giese capped a sensational three-game run with selection to Soccer America's national team of the week. She helped the squad fire three-straight shutouts to insure the program's first conference title. The rookie from Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., finished the tournament with 270 shutout minutes and a total of eight defensive saves.
