Owls Head to Birmingham for American Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM – The Rice men's track and field team is set for the American Indoor Championships this weekend in Birmingham, Ala., with the two-day meet set to begin Friday.
Several athletes ranked within the top 10 are ready to represent the Owls this weekend.
The conference leader in the weight throw, Sultan Bakare is searching for a podium appearance in two events, also being ranked second in the shot put.
Cal Abdulky enters the meet seeded second in the weight throw, while Daniel Sowell sits fifth in the weight throw and seventh in the shot put.
School record holder in the 60m hurdles, Christian Edgar is ranked fourth for the event.
Marcus Gaitan is slotted sixth in the 800m, while Rice's 4x400m also sits sixth in the conference.
The pole vault duo of Chizitere Okolie and William Hagemeier both sit tied for seventh with a clearance of 4.75m.
Patrick Elizondo's clearance of 1.95m ranks tenth for the American.
