Bakare, Edgar Lead Owls in Final Day at American Indoor

BIRMINGHAM – The Rice men's track and field team closed out the indoor season with several more podium visits during the final day of the American Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala.
Sultan Bakare added his second podium visit of the weekend, finishing third in the shot put off a personal best throw of 18.03m.
Christian Edgar reached the podium again this year in the 60m hurdles with a third-place showing with a time of 7.86s.
Rice's 4x400 team of Connor McGrath, Christian Edgar, Vincent Nnanna and Jakob Gilbreth added a sixth-place showing in the meet's final event.
FROM DAY ONE
Cal Abdulky claimed Rice's lone event title on the day, winning the weight throw with a personal best mark of 21.96m.
Sultan Bakare added a podium visit for the Owls, also using a personal best mark of 21.53m to finish second in the weight throw. Daniel Sowell continued the string of personal bests with a mark of 18.71m to finish sixth in the event.
William Hagemeier (sixth) and Chizitere Okolie (seventh) opened Rice's scoring off of personal best clearances of 4.85m in the pole vault.
Rice's DMR team of Andrew Murray, Edward Bocock, William Thames and Jackson Moran closed the night with a strong fourth-place finish.

"We had a couple of strong performances today, led by a personal best for Sultan in the shot put to finish third. Christian also had a great day with a third-place finish in the 60m hurdles in a very fast final. Our 4x400 team also ran well, scoring a few points. I'm looking forward to seeing how we can build upon this for the outdoor season."
