9/7/2025 10:39:00 PM | Women's Soccer
BEAUMONT – The Rice soccer team earned their third straight win behind a brace from Leah Chancey for a 2-0 win at Lamar Sunday night. The win moves the Owls to 5-1 on the season, while the Cardinals fall to 2-4-1.
How It Happened
Chancey opened the scoring right out of the gate, stealing a pass by the keeper to get a one-on-one look just three minutes into the game. Fast forward 12 minutes, Chancey struck again, this time off a header to double the lead. Lamar nearly cut the deficit in half shortly after, but a leaping save by Kirsten Ruf kept the Cardinals off the board. Rice led 2-0 at the half.
The Owls thought they had a third goal late in the second half off a corner kick, but a handball was called to wipe off the goal. Rice's defensive line held off any attempt by Lamar as the Owls secured their second shutout win of the season.
Post-Match Reaction: Head Coach Brian Lee
"Solid road win in a tough environment to the heavy Southland favorites. Two well taken goals from Leah, she is as cool as a cucumber in a bowl of hot sauce."
