Taking on the Reigning Champs
The Owls conclude a stretch of three straight ranked opponents Sunday afternoon at the reigning national champion, No. 15 Florida State. Rice has faced the reigning national champion in four of the last five seasons.
Last Time Out
The Owls put up a valiant attempt with a short-handed 4-3 defeat at No. 17 Texas State last Thursday night. Rice led 2-0 but played for 70 minutes with nine players. Neerali Kapadia, Sloane Popov and Lauren Pickup all scored goals for the Owls.
First Weekly Honors
Rice earned two honors on the opening weekly conference honors, with Kirsten Ruf being named the American Conference Goalkeeper of the Week and Lauren Pickup earning honorable mention recognition. Ruf guided the Owls to their first victory of the season in a 3-0 win against Navy, also recording her first career assist. Pickup scored a pair of goals on the week against Texas A&M and Navy.
Rice vs. Florida State
This is only the third meeting between the two schools, with the Seminoles leading the series 2-0. Each time Rice has played Florida State, the Seminoles have been defending a national title.
Preseason Honors
Three Owls represented Rice on the American Conference Preseason Watch List, with Jadyn Jaeger, Lilly Reuscher and Dayo Tennyson all receiving honors. The Owls were picked third in the preseason coaches poll.
Welcome to *OUR* House
The Owls have defended Holloway Field fiercely as of late, going 15-4-4 at home over the last three seasons. Rice has a 146-61-25 all-time home record.
National Recognition
Lilly Reuscher was named to the 2026 United Soccer Coaches Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy Watch List. Reuscher was an All-Conference Third Team selection last year, contributing to five shutouts by the Owl defense, and also earned Second Team All-Region honors.
25 Years of Rice Soccer
This season, the Owls honor 25 years of Rice soccer, recognizing the tremendous success the program has seen since its inaugural season in 2001.
