Owls wrap up regular season at UTSA
How it Happened: After saluting 12 seniors and as well as three support staff members, the Owls jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Colin Robson led off with a walk and advanced to third on a single to second by Blaine Brown and a throwing error by the second baseman. Robson scored on a sacrifice fly by Michael Zito and Landon West followed with a single to drive in Brown. Starter Tucker Alch held the Shockers off the scoreboard for the first three innings, but they knocked him out of the game while scoring four runs in the fourth. The Owls had a response of their own in the bottom of the fourth with two out. Robson drove in Paul Smith with a single and Brown followed with a home run to left to give Rice its last lead of the day as the Shockers scored nine times over the next three innings. The Owls added two runs in the seventh on RBI singles by Landon West and Treyton Rank.
Up Next: Rice closes out the season with three games at AAC regular season champion UTSA, beginning Thursday at 6:30. The Owls' magic number with each of the other three teams contending for the final two slots in the AAC Championship (Memphis, UAB & Wichita State) is one as Rice holds the tiebreaker and a two-game lead with both Memphis and Wichita State and a three-game lead with UAB with three games remaining in the regular season.
