SAN ANTONIO – The Rice men's track and field team closed out the 2024 AAC Outdoor Championships with an impressive team showing in Rice's outdoor conference debut. The Owls finished in third as a team, securing 105 points throughout the meet, with only the top three teams surpassing 100+ points.

Day One Reaction - Head Coach Jon Warren
"We had a lot of very good performances, but that kind of goes without saying, there are many great teams and lots of great athletes in this conference. For us to get champions like Cal, Ty, and Sam and medalists like Gus, Vincent, Aryan, Shaun, Ese, Andrew and Matt is a testament to how good these guys did. I am proud of the entire team's focus and effort this week. They posted outstanding performances across the board. In addition to the above medalists, we had others scoring important points with Javier, Elliot, Luke, Travis, Patrick, Grant, and Christian. Special mention to those who scored in multiple events. Sam, in addition to winning the discus was sixth in the Shot Put and posting a huge personal best to do so. And Gus, ran four races in three days. On Friday, he ran the 1500m qualifying round, and on Saturday, he placed second in the steeplechase, running a great race, and then came back on Sunday to take second in the 1500 and then snagging two more points, finishing seventh in the 5000m. Gus and Sam were the big point earners on the team, with Sam getting 13 points and Gus getting an impressive 18 points. This group of guys, medalists, scorers and non-scorers, all earned a great third place team finish over the last three days and should be very happy and proud with this result."
