
Men’s Track Concludes Stay at Prelims; Two Advance to NCAA Championships

FAYETTEVILLE – The Rice men's track and field team wrapped up their stay at the NCAA West Prelims, with two Owls advancing to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
To open the day's competition, Ese Amata closed his incredible Rice career by taking 19th in the high jump with a clearance of 2.09m. Amata finishes with seven All-Conference honors and one conference outdoor title in the high jump (2022).
Sam Welsh also sported the Rice uniform one last time, finishing 20th in the discus. Welsh concludes his career with three conference event titles and four All-Conference honors.
Over on the track, Gus Gannon finished 31st in the 3000m steeplechase to close his sophomore season.
Both Ty Hampton (javelin) and Shaun Kerry (hammer throw) secured their spots at the championship meet during day one of the preliminary competition.
